Skyline High and its first-year boys soccer coach, Alan Jones, wanted to give fans around the state a chance to find out who really is king of the castle when it comes to prep soccer.

Accordingly, Jones helped organize the Skyline Champions Invitational, which features three of the four state champions from last season (Jordan of 5A, Bountiful of 4A and Waterford of 2A) and Skyline, in an effort to see which of the champs really is the best.

But as Jones pointed out after Jordan (3-0-1) and Bountiful (1-0-2) collided Tuesday afternoon in the inaugural invitational, so much for that idea.

Jordan, ranked No. 1 in 5A, and Bountiful, ranked No. 1 in 4A, actually put on a pretty good show despite playing on Skyline’s tiny soccer pitch, but in the end, the two titans of Utah prep soccer battled to an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Tasmanian soccer officials says it would be a costly excersise to get a state team in the A-league competition.

Four business people have formed the Tasmanian Football Taskforce with the hope of getting a team in the League within three years.

Football Federation Tasmania supports the push.

But the chief executive, Martin Shaw, says it costs at least $5 million just to establish a team.

“Once a team is established for a season, the average A-league budget around now is about $7 million,” he said.

“So you’re looking at some sizeable money and as the League continues to grow over future years you are looking at a budget of $10 million or $12 million.”

San Martin tried hard to tie the game since the beginning and was unable to coordinate in the middle field and made many bad long passes.

River only accomplished one attack but it was the closest any of the two teams got to scoring when Mauro Rosales turned around 180 degrees to kick the ball which was barely stopped.

With this victory, River has 12 points and is tied with Boca juniors for 3rd and 4th place in the tournament behind Velez and Estudiantes de La Plata, both leading with 13 points each.
