Though only two games into its 2008 season, the Rhea County High School soccer team is already halfway to matching its 2007 win total.
The Golden Eagles, who went 2-10-2 last season, defeated Tellico Plains High School 4-0 in Tuesday nights opener.
We emptied the bench the last 15 minutes, Rhea County Head Coach Scott Heath said of the shutout victory. Were faster than we were last year. The teams binding together real close. Theyre easy to coach and flexible with their positions.
The Eagles improvement was evident in game two of the season as well, when they held even with the reigning Region 3-AAA Champions the Soddy Daisy Trojans for more than a half. Though the Trojans triumphed after two goals late in the game, Heath was impressed with his teams ability to hang with an area superpower.
